Gunshots exchanged in a Hamilton neighbourhood

Police continue to investigate a report of gunshots in a Hamilton neighbourhood and ask for the public’s help.

Multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the area of Barton Street East and Kinrade Avenue yesterday (May 13) shortly before 5 p.m., Hamilton Police said in a press release today.

Officers were immediately dispatched and confirmed that there were shots fired in the area.

Witnesses reported that several people exchanged gunfire and bullets were found in buildings, vehicles, garages and on roadways, police said.

A vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was found abandoned in the area, but the suspects remain outstanding, police said.

Hamilton Police, including patrol officers, the K9 Unit, the Emergency Response Team, the Shooting Task Force and Forensics secured the scene and began their investigation.

Police ask anyone with information to come forward.

Residents in the area should review security camera footage from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. for any suspicious activity. Drivers in the area with dash camera footage are asked to contact Hamilton Police.
