Wrong-way driver hits 72-year-old motorcycle rider in Hamilton

A man is on the road to recovery after being hit by a car that was going the wrong way while riding his motorcycle in Hamilton last night.

Hamilton Police say the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. in the area of Garth Street and Darlington Drive.

Investigators say the 72-year-old  motorcyclist was hit by a black 2008 Mazda 3 sedan that was travelling northbound in the southbound lanes.

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Police say the driver of the sedan attempted to flee the scene but was arrested by authorities.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation and driving while under suspension.

All roads in the area have since reopened.
