Update: Wrong-way driver crashes on the QEW in Hamilton, occupants flee

People were spotted fleeing the scene after a wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle on the QEW in Hamilton early this morning.

An SUV was reportedly travelling the wrong way on a QEW ramp around 3:50 a.m. this morning (March 6), OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a post on X.

That SUV collided head-on with another SUV heading on the Red Hill Valley Parkway ramp toward the Toronto-bound QEW in Hamilton, Schmidt said.

In an update, Schmidt said the wrong-way SUV was reported stolen. At this time, police are not clear if the SUV was travelling on the QEW before the crash or how it ended up travelling the wrong way on the ramp, he added.

The driver coming off Red Hill Valley Parkway was taken to hospital for minor injuries, Schmidt said.

Witnesses reported three males running from the scene after the crash, Schmidt added.

“Those males remain outstanding at this time,” he said.
