World Wildlife Day: City of Hamilton reminds us that it’s wild about wildlife

In honour of World Wildlife Day, the City of Hamilton tweeted several photos in an effort to remind the public of the work its animal services department does with local wildlife.
The City wrote that it “accepts hundreds of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife every year” — “including birds, skunks, coyotes, opossum, raccoons, and beavers to name a few.”
The photos accompanying the tweets include a skunk with its head stuck in a can, an owl being treated with its wing outstretched, and a baby squirrel being bottle-fed.
“From incubating young wildlife and arranging needed medical care to transporting them to a licensed authorized wildlife rehabilitator, and providing food and shelter, the (Hamilton Animal Services) team cares for these animals so that they can be rehabilitated and reintroduced back into their habitat,” the City wrote.

March 3 was declared World Wildlife Day after a United Nations resolution in 2013. The commemoration was proposed by Thailand to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora.
