What's open and closed in Hamilton on Labour Day Monday Sept. 2, 2024

Labour Day in Hamilton falls on Monday, September 2, 2024.

Labour Day was originally established to give workers the chance to campaign for better working conditions and pay. Canada has observed Labour Day since 1894. The day was hard won, with Hamilton and Oshawa among the cities to hold labour demonstrations on the first Monday of September in the preceding years.

Now, it’s part of a long weekend to relax and unwind at the end of the summer.

It wouldn’t be Labour Day in Hamilton without the CFL’s Tiger-Cats taking the field. The Ticats and Toronto Argonauts will go head-to-head in the annual classic at 2:30 p.m. at Tim Hortons Field.

This year is a special event to mark the 10th anniversary of the Ticats moving into their current home at Tim Hortons Field. Tickets are available online.
