What’s open and closed Hamilton Christmas Day 2024

It’s Christmas time in Hamilton!
Christmas Day falls Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, this year and as per usual, most shops, businesses and government offices are closed for the statutory holiday.
Here’s what’s open and closed in Hamilton on Christmas Day:
Open:
- All critical services, including Fire and Emergency Services, Traffic Services, By-Law Enforcement, Road Operations and Security Services, will continue to operate on Christmas Day
- Hamilton trails and parks
- Most convenience stores
- Skating rinks: Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre – Serafini Family Ice Pad, Dundas Driving Park, Freelton Community Park, Waterdown Memorial Park (weather permitting)
- Some restaurants; check your favourite before venturing out
- Some drug stores, such as Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall
- Splitsville Entertainment
- Movie theatres
Closed:
- Banks
- Beer Stores (all will close early at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve)
- Canada Post
- Government offices
- Grocery stores
- Hamilton Farmers’ Market
- Independent movie cinemas
- LCBO
- Libraries
- All civic museums, including Dundurn National Historical site, Griffin House, Hamilton & Scourge National Historic site, Hamilton Childrens’ Museum, Fieldcote Memorial Park, Battlefield National Historical site, Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology, Hamilton Military Museum and Whitehern House & Garden
- Malls
- Recreation centres
- Gage Park greenhouse
- ATS Darts. The ATS office will be closed and advance reservation is required for travel on DARTS
Waste and Recycling:
- Waste and recycling collection will resume on Friday, Dec. 27, with schedules pushed ahead one day.
Transit:
- HSR buses will operate a special holiday schedule with limited service from 6 am to 9 p.m.
- GO Transit will run on a Saturday schedule on December 25 and 26.
