  • All critical services, including Fire and Emergency Services, Traffic Services, By-Law Enforcement, Road Operations, and Security Services, will continue to operate on New Year’s Day
  • Hamilton trails
  • Most convenience stores
  • Movie theatres
  • Skating rinks: Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre – Serafini Family Ice Pad, Dundas Driving Park, Freelton Community Park, Waterdown Memorial Park, as well as outdoor rinks (weather permitting)
  • Some drug stores, such as Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall
  • Some restaurants
  • Splitsville Entertainment

Closed

  • Banks
  • Beer Stores
  • Canada Post
  • Government offices. Hamilton City Hall administration offices will re-open on Jan. 2
  • Grocery stores
  • Hamilton Farmers’ Market
  • Independent movie cinemas
  • LCBO
  • Libraries and civic museums
  • Malls
  • Recreation Centres

Mail delivery

  • There will be no mail delivery.

Trash and recycling

  • There will be no trash or recycling collection. Waste collection will be pushed ahead one day.

Transit

  • Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) and DARTS will be operating holiday service hours.
  • GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule on January 1.
