A special weather statement has been issued for Hamilton on Tuesday (Sept. 21) as the soggy weather settles in for the next couple of days.

Environment Canada issued the statement warning of significant rainfall expected Tuesday evening through Wednesday night.

“Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to begin late this evening or tonight and will continue through at least Wednesday night,” the weather agency said in the statement.

Residents should prepare for rainfall amounts of 40 to 60 mm by early Thursday morning with higher amounts in areas that receive multiple thunderstorms.

According to Environment Canada, this rainfall is due to a cold front and a moisture-laden low-pressure system that will arrive from the American Mid-west this week.
