Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, needs witnesses to a Hamilton arrest which resulted in serious injuries for the suspect.
According to the SIU, two plainclothes Hamilton Police officers spotted an SUV speeding down Barton Street around 10 a.m. on May 16.
The officers followed the SUV to a parking lot at 81 Kinrade Avenue in a busy residential area downtown.
They approached the SUV and pulled out the 37-year-old driver. A struggle ensued but the officers managed to arrest the man.
However, shortly afterwards, the driver complained of pain. He was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with serious injuries. The SIU did not specify the nature of these wounds.
As in any case where someone is seriously hurt in dealings with police, the SIU was called in to investigate. They have assigned three investigators to oversee the case.
Anyone with information about this arrest can call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529 or or report online.
