Watch: Hamilton man tased by police after reported seizure
Published October 4, 2022 at 11:07 am
A video that began circulating on social media Monday night shows a man getting pinned down and tased by Hamilton police outside the Canadian Tire on Main St. and Victoria Ave. The man, 27-year-old Marcus Charles, says he has epilepsy and had a seizure before the altercation.
Charles, an employee at the Canadian Tire, says paramedics were called to the store because he was experiencing a seizure.
However, when paramedics arrived, they called police for assistance.
The Hamilton Police Service says they were called because Charles became combative with the paramedics.
Police say they attempted to de-escalate the situation, but one officer was “slammed into an ambulance.”
No injuries to police officers were reported.
Charles, a father of three, suffered cuts and bruises to his legs, arms, back, and face during the incident.
Charges against Charles have not been confirmed by police.
In the video, Charles can be heard screaming with police on top of him.
