Teen charged in fatal Hamilton crash

A teen driver has been charged after a crash in Hamilton proved fatal.
The 16-year-old was driving his 2023 Mercedes YCG on Lincoln Alexander Pkwy. when he and a 24-year-old man in a 2022 Lexus IS collided near Upper James St on June 19. The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. The impact was so severe the Lexus rolled several times. The Mercedes flipped onto its roof.
The 24-year-old was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old and his passenger of unspecified age reported minor wounds.
On June 23, police announced the man had died. “It is with heavy hearts we announce the 24-year-old man has died of the injuries sustained during this collision. Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time,” they said.
Then on June 30, police announced they had charged the 16-year-old with dangerous driving and criminal negligence causing death. The boy was released after his arrest until a court appearance. He has been banned from driving.
