UPDATE: Suspicious package found at HMCS Star in Hamilton

UPDATE: Investigators have concluded the threat was unfounded. They have cleared the area.

A suspicious package was discovered at HMCS Star in Hamilton prompting a shutdown of the area.

Hamilton Police confirmed a package was discovered near the naval base on the harbour shortly after 9 a.m. on Sept. 6. They’ve shut down Dock Service Road between Catharine Street and Ferguson Avenue to investigate.

The facility is a training base for part-time sailors and a recruitment centre for the Royal Canadian Navy.
