Update 1:30 p.m: Investigators have pulled out of the Chedoke Golf Course and Scenic Drive after they failed to capture the suspect.

Original story follows:

Hamilton police have released more information about this morning’s shooting which left a man seriously hurt.

Operators got a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. on June 6 from a man, 38, who had been shot on Juanita Drive, Hamilton Police report. The neighbourhood is a small residential side road in the city’s west side. It sits just north of Lincoln Alexander Parkway by Mohawk Road and Garth Street.

The victim’s wounds are not life-threatening. He remains in hospital in stable condition.

Officers quickly responded and found a car they believe is connected to the attack. They arrested a suspect from the car, a 17-year-old boy. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

*The teen is charged with;

  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • knowing unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • two counts of breach of court-ordered conditions
  • possession of a prohibited firearm
  • discharge firearm with intent

However, other suspects were also reported in the area who fled the scene. They described him as a black man, wearing a gray hoodie and dark blue pants. He was wearing a blue surgical mask during the shooting itself.

Police have set up a perimeter in the area to search for the outstanding suspects. They believe at least one made it to the Bruce Trail on the south side of Highway 403.

At 10 a.m. police advised residents to avoid the Chedoke Radial Trail between Scenic Drive and the Chedoke Golf Course as they have a suspect cornered in the area. They combed the park with K-9 units and the Emergency Response Team. The OPP and Halton Police also lent a hand.

Investigators will remain in the area canvassing neighbours for information.

Hamilton has seen a rash of shootings throughout the spring. The daylight last occurred less than a week ago when shots were fired by an apartment building at 111 Market Street on May 31. This was followed by another shooting on June 2 around midnight. This incident, the 24th of the year, left three people wounded.

*Police reported the boy’s charge list after the initial publishing of this story.
