Sixth most wanted man in Canada arrested on murder charges in Hamilton

The sixth most wanted man in Canada was arrested in Hamilton today.

Habiton Solomon, 21 of Waterloo is a suspect in the murder of Joshua Tarnue, an 18-year-old man shot and killed in Kitchener last summer.

Tarnue was killed shortly before 10:30 p.m. on August 13, 2023, at a business near Queen Street and Charles Street, according to Waterloo Police. First responders found Tarnue alive and rushed him to hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

In April, Waterloo Police arrested two men from Hamilton, aged 25 and 19. Both were charged with manslaughter. At that time, the Canada BOLO Program added Solomon to the line-up of Canada’s Most Wanted on a second-degree murder warrant.

Shortly before Tarune’s murder, Solomon was allegedly involved in a Hamilton shooting near King Street West and Caroline Street North. The disturbance began as a large fight in a parking lot, which resulted in shots fired. No one was hurt in this instance.

For this incident, Solomon is charged with;

• discharge of a firearm with intent
• reckless discharge of a firearm
• possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
• unauthorized possession of a firearm, and
• knowing unauthorized possession of a firearm

Solomon was known to frequent Brantford, Hamilton, Huntsville, North Bay, Ottawa, and Windsor. Investigators described him as likely armed and dangerous. They advised no one to approach him but to call 911 immediately. The BOLO Program offered a $50,000 reward for any information that led to Solomon’s arrest.

On May 31, Hamilton Police reported officers were investigating a different incident in Hamilton’s downtown core. The officers spotted Solomon but didn’t realize he was a wanted man.

They moved to arrest Solomon in connection with this most recent investigation. However, he fled the area. After a brief chase, the officers were able to arrest Solomon at which time they learned of his earlier charges. He was held in custody at least until a bail hearing on May 31.
