Police are investigating after shots were allegedly fired into the entrance of an apartment building in Hamilton.

Hamilton police say officers were called to 30 Congress Cres., an apartment in the east end of the city, in the early morning hour of May 10 to respond to reports of a shooting.

Police say witnesses told officers that multiple gunshots were fired into the front entrance area of the building.

“There are no reports of injuries and it remains unclear at this time if there was an intended victim,” police said in a news release.

Police alleged a shooting did occur and that “multiple rounds were fired.”

Investigators are appealing to the public for help in identifying a beige SUV occupied by someone who allegedly had a gun. Police say the suspect vehicle was last seen leaving the entrance area of the apartment, travelling eastbound from the address. Police do not yet know how many people were in the vehicle.

Investigators ask area residents to check home surveillance footage between 2:00 am and 3:30 am on May 10. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Shooting Response Team (SRT) at 905-546-4883 or email them at [email protected]
