SHOOTING: One injured as shots fire at Hamilton plaza

A man is on the road to recovery after gunshots rang out at a plaza in Hamilton last night.

Hamilton Police responded to reports of shots fired at a parking lot of a plaza near the corner of Fennell Avenue East and Upper Gage Avenue shortly after 11 p.m.

A man in his 30s was found by police with a gunshot wound and multiple bullet casings were also found around the area.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been treated and released, police said.

The Hamilton Police Shooting Response Team was called to investigate and the scene was cleared around 3:20 a.m.

In addition, several businesses in the area were damaged by stray bullets, police said.

Investigators have not yet identified a suspect or a motive for the shooting and the shooter’s description and direction of travel remain unknown.

This incident brings the total number of shootings in Hamilton this year to 51. Police are urging anyone with surveillance footage from the area between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. to review it for potential evidence.

Officers are also seeking witnesses of the incident but have reported limited cooperation from the public so far, except for the staff at Coolers bar, located near the plaza of the shooting, who have been assisting detectives in the investigation.
