Shooting investigation leads to arrest of youth in Hamilton

A youth is facing multiple gun charges in connection with a Hamilton shooting that occurred early Sunday evening (Sept. 1).

The shooting incident took place shortly before 6 p.m. near Upper Wentworth Street and Kingfisher Drive.

An investigation by Hamilton Police led them to a downtown location where the alleged shooter was located.

“The suspect was arrested without incident,” said police.

The individual arrested is a youth and cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The person remains in custody pending a bail hearing and is facing multiple charges, including:

  1. Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  2. Possession of a Prohibited Loaded Firearm
  3. Discharge Firearm with Intent
  4. Assault with a Weapon
  5. Possession of a Firearm, Contrary to Order
  6. Breach Youth Probation Order

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.

The Shooting Response Team is currently holding a residence in Hamilton as part of the continuing investigation and in anticipation of executing a search warrant.
