February 3 will be Seedy Saturday in Hamilton, but instead of a tour through some of the rougher parts of town, it will instead be a celebration of the start of gardening season.

There will be activities for green thumbs of all ages at the annual event, including workshop presentations, a free seed exchange, seed and garden vendors and a seedling zone with kids’ activities.

Garden experts on urban agriculture and native plants will be on hand at the free event and the free community seed exchange offered throughout the day will be supported by staff from Dundurn Castle’s Historic Kitchen Garden and others.

Seedy Saturday 2023

Hamilton Seedy Saturday will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hamilton Central Branch Library (4th Floor) at 55 York Boulevard.

Admission is free but donations in support of Green Venture, an environmental non-profit organization in East Hamilton tasked with empowering Hamiltonians to implement greener practices, are welcome.

Hamilton Seedy Saturday community partners include the Hamilton Public Library, Mohawk Sustainability Office, Dundurn National Historic Site and staff from Dundurn Castle’s Historic Kitchen Garden. Sponsors include Humble Bee, Root Rescue, WaterFarmers, Worm Wrangler and Ontario Native Plants.
