Update 11:45 a.m: Police have described the suspect as a black man, wearing a gray hoodie and dark blue pants. He wore a blue surgical mask at the time of the shooting.

Original story follows:

A search is underway for a group of suspects after shots rang out in Hamilton this morning.

Gunfire erupted by Juanita Drive around 7:30* a.m. on June 6, Hamilton Police report. Juanita Drive is a small residential side road in the city’s west side. It sits just north of Lincoln Alexander Parkway by Mohawk Road and Garth Street.

Officers quickly responded and arrested a suspect at the scene. They have not identified or described the suspect. However, other suspects were also reported in the area who fled the scene.

Police have set up a perimeter in the area to search for the outstanding suspects. They believe at least one made it to the Bruce Trail on the south side of Highway 403.

At 10 a.m. police advised residents to avoid the Chedoke Radial Trail between Scenic Drive and the Chedoke Golf Course as they have a suspect cornered in the area. They are combing the park with K-9 units and the Emergency Response Team. The OPP and Halton Police are also lending a hand.

Hamilton has seen a rash of shootings throughout the spring. The daylight last occurred less than a week ago when shots were fired by an apartment building at 111 Market Street on May 31. This was followed by another shooting on June 2 around midnight. This incident, the 24th of the year, left three people wounded.
