Months after part of its rock wall fence collapsed, Hamilton’s busy Mountain access road will be fully reopened by noon on Thursday.

The City of Hamilton said the Claremont Access’s two downbound lanes on Nov. 9 will again be accessible to all traffic from Inverness Avenue East to Main Street East.

The lanes had been closed since March due to landslide threats.

“The escarpment rock face has been scaled and made safe, and all clean-up has been completed, including minor pavement repairs and the repainting of roadway pavement markings,” the City said in a press release today (Nov. 8).

Part of the Claremont Access wall had collapsed back in May. A rock wall fence had held back debris from the failing wall panels.

The City had closed the area to pedestrian access as a “precautionary measure” earlier this year as it monitored the wall for erosion and slope stability.

“City of Hamilton Engineering Services appreciates the patience of community members and those commuters who were regular users of the down bound lanes of the Claremont Access prior to their closure,” the City said in its press release Wednesday (Nov. 8).
