Renewed wind warning for Hamilton

Those gusting winds that Hamilton residents experienced today will apparently continue.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a special weather statement for the city, saying there will be strong winds early on Thursday evening (April 14). Gusts could reach 80 kilometres per hour (km/h), which raises the possibility of local power outages.
“Southwest winds gusting up to 80 km/h are expected early this evening,” ECCC says. “Winds are forecast to ease this evening.
“Strong winds combined with saturated ground conditions may make it easier for damage to trees to occur.”

The federal weather agency also issued a special weather statement advising of wind gusts for the daytime hours on Thursday. At that time, gusts of up to 70 km/h out of the west and southwest were anticipated.
Heavy winds are common in Hamilton in mid-April. The maximum wind gust recorded for today’s date in the past five years was 87 km/h on April 14, 2018. There was also a 78 km/h gust on April 14, 2019.
