Hamilton Police say they have identified the remains Holly Ellsworth-Clark.
“The investigation into the disappearance of Holly Ellsworth-Clark has reached a sad conclusion as Hamilton Police identified the 27-year-old’s remains earlier today,” police say in a press release issued Thursday (Sept. 10).
Police said that on Tuesday (Sept. 8) a worker in the area spotted what appeared to be a body floating in Hamilton Harbour at Pier 11.
Hamilton Police and Hamilton Fire recovered the body which appeared to have been in the water for a prolonged period of time. The remains were sent to the Centre for Forensic Sciences for identification, police said.
The Centre for Forensic Sciences has now confirmed the remains are of missing person Holly Ellsworth-Clark.
Holly, who was a musician who had moved to the Hamilton area in 2019 from Calgary, was last seen on January 11 by her roommates at her home in North Hamilton.
Witnesses have reported that before she left her residence, Holly appeared to be suffering from some distress but was otherwise healthy and athletic.
Hamilton Police and Ellsworth-Clark’s family — who travelled to Hamilton from their hime in Alberta — conducted a thorough investigation including ground search, social media posts and continued to follow up on various leads and tips with negative results.
During the course of the investigation, her family shared with the public a voicemail from Holly from the day before she disappeared.
In it, Holly reportedly says she’s being pursued by two men and that she is afraid for her life and she pleads with her mother to send her a plane ticket home.
At one point, the search for Holly focused on a downtown hotel where witnesses reported seeing her around the time of her disappearance.
Police say Holly’s family has been notified of the results.
Hamilton Police say they do not believe her death is suspicious in nature.
