Puppies Found in Plastic Bag on Hamilton Street

The Hamilton-Burlington SPCA (HBSPCA) is seeking the public’s help after a litter of eight day-old puppies was found in a plastic bag near Emerald and Barton Street in Hamilton.

The Hamilton-Burlington SPCA (HBSPCA) is seeking the public’s help after a litter of eight day-old puppies was found in a plastic bag near Emerald and Barton Street in Hamilton.

In an Instagram post, posted Monday (Sept. 9), the HBSPCA says that their Protection Department was alerted to the situation within the last few days and the puppies were taken into care.

The puppies, the post says, will be OK but the HBSPCA is hoping that anyone with information as to how the puppies came to be in such a predicament will come forward to speak with an investigator on the Protection Team.

We have 8 little babies who need your help! Earlier this week our Protection Department was alerted that a litter of day old puppies had been found in a plastic bag, tossed away like trash. Luckily these babies were found in time however details as to how they came to be there are few and far between and we are hoping someone knows something. They were found in the Barton/Emerald area in Hamilton and are most likely a large breed dog. Perhaps a Mastiff or Boxer or similar large dog. If you know someone who had a pregnant large breed dog and no longer has the puppies please contact our Protection Department at 905 574-7722 ext 401 and speak with an investigator. Any information would be helpful. We don’t know the circumstances surrounding the first day of these puppies life, or what happened to the dog who gave birth to them however we do know that a litter of puppies is NOT to be disposed of like garbage. We are here to help! If you are struggling, if you need help or advice please reach out. Luckily these puppies were found and while we, as humans, are a poor substitute for their mom we are going to do everything in our power to make sure that they are ok and ready for forever families in a couple months BUT this could have ended very differently. “We don’t know the circumstances surrounding the first day of these puppies life, or what happened to the dog who gave birth to them,” says the SPCA post. “We are going to do everything in our power to make sure that they are ok and ready for forever families in a couple months but this could have ended very differently.”

The puppies appear to be a large breed — perhaps Mastiff or Boxer or a similar breed.

While the puppies are safe with local foster families and they are in the clear, the HBSPCA says they still need help with their care.

They are asking for donations of makeup remover pads, Royal Canin puppy food (for when they are big enough for kibble), and puppy pads.

The HBSPCA says they will inform the public when the puppies will be available for adoption in a few months.
