Power outage reported in Grimsby, southeast of Hamilton

Hundreds of residents in Grimsby, southeast of Hamilton along Lake Ontario, have lost power after lightning struck a transformer in the area.
Grimsby Power says lightning struck a transformer on Russ Road. A hydro crew is patrolling the area to complete a damage assessment, so the utility has not projected when the issues might be resolved.
The area was under a weather advisory on Wednesday night, and there were dozens of lightning strikes reported in the area.

10:00 – March 23, 2022 – Update on outage – crew have found several blown fuses and lightning has struck a transformer. Crew is still patrolling the area to determine damaged equipment. ETA is still unknown at this time.

Alectra Utilities is the hydro supplier to most of Hamilton. As of 11:15 p.m., it has not reported any outages in the city.
