Nearly 2,400 businesses and homes in the Stoney Creek area of Hamilton could be without power for much of Monday evening, due to an outage related to the work to contain a residential fire.

Alectra Utilities says the outage is in the area in the Trinity Church to Bonhill Blvd. and Highland Rd. W. to Blue Mountain Dr. area, and the expected time of resumption is 9 p.m. on Monday. The outage was ordered by the Hamilton Fire Department, whose crews are trying to put out a blaze in a townhouse development that started during a dry, humid afternoon.

The fire has already caused road closures, including to a span of Red Hill Valley Parkway.

During a power outage, any intersections whose traffic lights are inoperational should be treated as four-way stops.

Alectra’s progress at restoring service, which is likely tied to the timeline for putting out the fire, can be tracked at horizonutilities.com.
