Update: Police crack down on illegal opioid production across Hamilton region

Hamilton police have announced today that they have cracked down on the production of illegal opioids — including the powerful drug fentanyl — executing a series of search warrants in partnership with other forces.

They conducted the warrants across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, Niagara Region, Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo.

The moves were part of Project Odeon, which targets the illegal production of fentanyl and other synthetics.

The force made the announcement Tuesday (Aug. 2) on Twitter.

Hamilton police didn’t immediately return hamilton.insauga.com’s requests for more information. But in a Twitter post this afternoon, they said they will hold a media conference about Project Odeon next week.

Hamilton police joined forces with York Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Operations, Guelph Police Service and the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario for Project Odeon.

The City of Hamilton had declared a state of emergency over opioid addictions and had approved its plan in June to tackle the crisis.

Hamilton Police and partnering police services are conducting a series of warrants at locations across the GTHA.
