Police and fire department respond to explosion at Hamilton manufacturing plant

An explosion resulted in a fire at a manufacturing plant in Hamilton on Christmas morning (Friday, December 25).
Police say the incident was reported shortly after 11:00 a.m. at Stelco Hamilton Works, located on Wilcox St in the city’s waterfront industrial zone.
Crews responded to the scene, which has since been cleared.
Police say the explosion happened in an unstaffed area of the facility, and as a result there were no injuries.
They also say there are no environment concerns and no risk to the public from the explosion.

The Ministry of the Environment has been called to investigate.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.
