Families won’t be able to use a popular playground in Hamilton for nearly a month because it’s getting new play equipment.

Glanbrook Hills Park playground will be closed starting Monday, Sept. 11 until around Friday, Oct. 6, depending on the weather, to facilitate the work to remove the old equipment and replace it, the City of Hamilton announced. The park is located at 232 Greti Drive in Glanbrook.

“All other park amenities will remain open for use, however some interruptions may occur,” according to the City on its website.

It didn’t provide specific details on the new playground equipment.

A petition was created last year and signed by 52 people to improve the park. Glanbrook Hills began the change.org petition back in Feb. 9, 2022.

“The neighbours in Glanbrook Hills would like to improve our park and make it more user friendly for families and young children,” they wrote in the petition. “We have a neighbourhood full of young kids and our park is not as well used as it could be.”

The residents noted that many walk or drive to other neighbourhood parks regularly because the park “is not suitable for their needs” with only two swings, one toddler swing and one accessible swing.
