The city has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a retirement home that is currently reporting one death from the virus.

On May 10, Hamilton Public Health Services declared an outbreak at Rosslyn Retirement Home, located at 1322 King Street East near Main Street.

As of May 15, the city reports 49 positive resident cases, 13 positive staff cases, eight people hospitalized, one death, and 16 pending cases.

“Based on an increase in the number of positive cases in recent days and significant staffing challenges, six staff and one physician from St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) and Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) have been deployed to the facility to assess patients’ health conditions and facilitate the safe transfer of patients to hospital, as required,” the city says.

Starting at 4:30 p.m. today, patients are being transferred to SJHH’s Charlton site and HHS’ Hamilton General Hospital site.

Transfers are expected to take about six hours and families are being notified of the situation.
