Soon you will be able to get a taste of the Himalayas steps from King St. in downtown Hamilton.
Everest Tandoori Kitchen, an Indian-Nepalese Hakka cuisine restaurant whose Welland location has garnered good reviews since opening in mid-2021, is expanding to the Jackson Square Mall in Hamilton. The new location is under construction in the mall in a space that was heretofore occupied by The Works burger restaurant, which closed earlier this year.
“We specialize in authentic North Indian cuisine, Hakka fusion menus and authentic Nepalese traditional cuisines… using organic Himalayan spices and herbs,” is how Everest describes itself at everesttandoori.ca.
A “coming soon!” sign has been posted outside, and plastic sheathing has been removed from the inside of the restaurant’s garage door-style windows, which are a remnant from the days of The Works.
Michael Marini, a City of Hamilton marketing coordinator, shared a snapshot of the soon-to-open spot for shahi paneer and other dishes.

The Welland location opened in 2021 and has a 4.2 rating (out of 5) on Google Reviews. Everest has an extensive dish of vegetarian main entrees that can also be adapted for vegans.
If the Welland location is any indication, the Everest Tandoori Kitchen in Hamilton will allow diners to enjoy a libation with, say, some lamb karahi. Beers on the menu include the Bangalore-brewed Kingfisher, Cheetah Indian Beer and Utsav. There is also a menu of red, rosé and white wines.

The new location will be less than 1 km from Sagarmatha Curry Palace Restaurant Authentic Indian & Nepalese Cuisine (43 King William St.). Sagarmatha is located just steps from the mall, east of James St. N.
Toronto-based Kathi Roll Eatery, an Indian fusion street food restaurant, also recently opened at 1299 Barton St. E. in the east end. Kathi Roll crafts Indian tastes in westernized formats, with menu offerings such as lamb kabab burritos and naan-wrapped tacos.
