A unique diner giving food lovers a taste of down east has shut its Newfoundland-themed doors in Hamilton for good.
Stage Diner served Rock-inspired dishes and boasted a decor straight from the island, including a mural on the walls.
The Corner Brook born-and-raised chef was known for his all-day breakfast and dishes like toutons, Newfie fries and tea buns.
Now, the diner is permanently closed, with the Hamilton BIA saying the restaurant had been for sale for a couple of years, and that it has now been sold.
The space where the restaurant was located at 518 Concession St. was once a movie theatre, with the building’s history stretching back to 1895. Now a new restaurant – Akus Family Diner – has opened at the location, serving waffles, French toast, omelettes and pancakes, as well as simple comfort food options like spaghetti and meatballs, wings, poutine and salads.
