After teasing tastebuds with some pop-up events, some Hamilton culinary creatives in will be opening a “chicken joint” in the centre of the city very soon.

Matty’s Hot Chicken, which is part of the Local Restaurant Group Inc., is “planning to open very soon” at 232 Locke St. S. in central Hamilton, according to social media posts that were written today (March 8). Matty’s sells chicken by the piece, by the strip, and also has “sandos” in the $15 to $17 range that are made with local brioche buns and boneless, southern-fried dark meat that is marinated in buttermilk for 24 hours.

“We’re hot chicken but we’re so much more,” Matty’s website reads. “At Matty’s we are proud to serve only locally raised chicken from Ontario farmers. Unlike other chickens out there, our chicken is only ever fresh, air chilled and free from any feed additives.”

Local Restaurant Group, whose principals are Paula and Mike Cipollo, has become a Hamilton fixture within the last decade. Their eateries include HAMBRGR, whose three locations include a pair of spots in Hamilton (49 King William St. and 207 Ottawa St. N.), as well as Undefined (35 King William St.).

More information about Matty’s is available at eatmattyschicken.com. It uses similar handle for Instagram and Twitter.
