Murder suspect arrested after sprint through Hamilton mall

A man has been arrested after a fatal stabbing in Hamilton.

According to Hamilton Police, their officers responded to an attack near Park St. and York Blvd. in Central Hamilton shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 27. The victim, a man in his 50s, was rushed to local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries there. Police have not identified the victim to the public.

The suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived. The officer canvassed the area and learned a white man wearing dark clothes had been seen running away. Police did not share details of the crime right away, but released a public appeal for information around 10 a.m.

At the time police said the suspect had been last seen running through the neighbouring Jackson Square mall. Around 11 a.m. officers arrested a 25-year-old man. They have not identified him publically, and he has not been formally charged.

“Homicide Unit continues to investigate. It’s important to note that the investigation is ongoing,” police said. “In efforts to gather more information, investigators are appealing to businesses and residents in the area to review any surveillance footage that may assist the case.”

“Presently, the victim’s family and next of kin have not been notified, and no further details will be disclosed at this time,” they continued.
