The pickup truck that triggered a serious three-vehicle collision in Hamilton on Monday morning was stolen the previous day, police say.

Hamilton Police (HPS) say two drivers, including one who has been “positively identified” and is facing criminal charges, were injured in the collision on Centennial Pkwy. shortly before 4:45 a.m. this morning. The collision led to a stretch of Centennial Pkwy S. being closed for several hours for investigation.

The pickup truck was headed southbound when it crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with a northbound SUV. The initial collision forced the SUV into collision with a third vehicle, also an SUV.

The 35-year-old male driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition, HPS said. Police established that the truck was stolen on Sunday.

“Investigation revealed that the pickup truck was stolen the previous day,” HPS stated on Monday afternoon. “The driver of the pickup has been positively identified and faces criminal charges. The investigation is ongoing. Impairment and speed have not been ruled out.

“The driver of an SUV sustained minor injuries and a third was not injured.”

The severity of the injuries prompted the HPS Collision Reconstruction Unit to take over the investigation. Anyone who has information that could assist with this police investigation may contact the collision reconstruction unit (905-546-4753).

Information may also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477; online at crimestoppershamilton.com).
