UPDATE: In a video update, CHCH News Director Greg O’Brien shared the station’s grief, stating, “It has been a painful day unlike any other. We are all heartbroken.” This on-air statement came ahead of the abbreviated 11 p.m. newscast.
“Earlier today, we had a medical emergency here in our newsroom, where we lost a beloved friend who was one of our most amazing and talented behind-the-scenes colleagues,” O’Brien said.
The employee’s name has not been publicly disclosed at this time. However, the station has received an outpouring of support and condolences from the community following the news.

A Hamilton television station cancelled their early evening newscast on Friday night (Oct. 4) for what they are saying was “a medical episode.”
Hamilton’s CHCH TV announced around 5:49 p.m. on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that, due to unforeseen circumstances, they would not be airing their 6 p.m. newscast.
A little more than half an hour later in an update, the station announced it would broadcast its 11 p.m. news program.
“Our news team was affected by a medical emergency this evening,” said the updated tweet at 6:26 p.m. “Our team has opted to not produce the 6 p.m. news, but we will broadcast at 11 p.m.
“Thank you for your support and understanding.”
No further explanation was given as to what the medical episode was.
“We apologize for the inconvenience,” said CHCH TV.
