Medical episode experienced before transport truck crash in Hamilton

A transport truck driver experienced a medical episode before a crash that closed the Lincoln Alexander Parkway in Hamilton.

Emergency crews rushed to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway near Garth Street yesterday (May 14) around 4:30 p.m., Hamilton Police said in a press release.

A 66-year-old Hamilton man was driving a 2018 Freightliner transport truck in the eastbound lanes of the Linc near Garth Street when the truck crossed the centre median and collided with a black 2020 Infiniti QX60 that was in the westbound lanes, police said.

The truck came to a stop in the westbound lanes against the sound barrier.

The man in the transport truck was sent to hospital. It was later determined he suffered a medical event and is in serious condition at this time. Speed and/or alcohol were not factors in this collision, police added.

No other injuries were reported.

The Linc was closed in both directions for the investigation. All lanes were reopened by 10:30 p.m.

Police are actively seeking any potential witnesses to this incident and urge anyone with information to come forward.  Investigators are also requesting any motorists in the area at the time of the collision to check their dash cameras and any residences or businesses in the area with surveillance cameras to review their camera footage.
