Man in critical condition after a crash into hydro pole in Hamilton

One person is in critical condition after a crash into a hydro pole in Hamilton.

Emergency crews were called to Mohawk Road East at East 45th Street for a single-vehicle collision involving a grey Dodge Caravan on Monday around 10:40 a.m., Hamilton Police said.

The Dodge left the roadway and hit a traffic signal light and hydro pole, police said.

Police said the driver, a 65-year-old man and a 69-year-old passenger, both from Hamilton, were transported to hospital.

The driver is listed in critical condition and the passenger suffered minor injuries, police said.

Mohawk Road was closed for several hours for the investigation but has since reopened.

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
