Man hit by police cruiser at Hamilton school taken to hospital, SIU investigating

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate and is investigating after a 40-year-old man was struck by a Hamilton Police Service cruiser early Wednesday morning (Aug. 21).

Hamilton police are also investigating the collision.

The incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. when an officer driving a marker cruiser entered the Central Elementary School parking lot, located at Bay Street South and Bold Street, and hit a man.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The SIU says that three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

“One subject official and three witness officials have been designated at this time,” said the civilian police oversight agency in the province.
