Man dies in an early morning crash in Hamilton

One man has died in a crash early this morning in Hamilton.

Emergency crews rushed to the two-vehicle crash at Main Street East and James Street South shortly before 1:30 a.m. this morning (Feb. 5), Hamilton Police said in a press release.

Upon arrival, police found a grey four-door motor vehicle with one man in his 60s. The man was transported to hospital but despite immediate lifesaving measures, he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Two men in their 20s were in another vehicle, brown in colour. Both men were transported to the hospital and remain in non-life-threatening condition, police said.

The circumstances surrounding this tragic collision are currently under investigation, police said. Hamilton Police said they extend their condolences to the family and friends affected.

Hamilton Police are appealing to the community for assistance.

Police ask anyone in the area around Main Street East and James Street South in the early hours of Monday, Feb. 5 who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Anyone with any information that could aid the investigation should contact police.

Residents, businesses, and anyone who was travelling in the vicinity are requested to review their dash camera footage from early this morning.

As of 7 a.m., police were at the scene to gather critical information. Due to the ongoing investigation, the area around Main Street East and James Street South may experience traffic disruptions.

  • Main Street West is closed at Bay Street South
  • James Street North southbound is closed at King Street West
  • James Street South Northbound is closed at Jackson Street West
  • MacNab Street South Northbound is closed at MacNab Street South
  • MacNab bus terminal is closed
  • King Street East (side street) at Hughson Street South is closed
