A man has been arrested following a break-and-enter at a home in Stoney Creek, Hamilton, last week.
Hamilton Police say the incident happened on Nov. 6 shortly after 2 p.m., when a homeowner was startled awake by a man who had forced entry through a side door. When confronted, the suspect fled the scene, prompting officers to search the area.
During the search, police say they received a second 911 call reporting a man matching the suspect’s description. The man had approached a woman outside her home, asking for assistance. When she declined, he reportedly became verbally aggressive before leaving.
Police located the suspect nearby shortly after and arrested him without incident. The stolen property was recovered and returned to its owner, though police did not specify what was taken.
Louis Roy, 51, of Hamilton, faces charges including break and enter to commit, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with probation.
The arrest comes as Hamilton Police recently issued a warning about a string of daylight break-ins across the region, with burglars reportedly canvassing neighbourhoods to identify unoccupied homes.
Police have noted that in several cases, suspects knock on doors posing as landscapers or workers and, if unanswered, return to break in, targeting valuables like jewelry.
Hamilton Police remind residents to secure their homes and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
