Four men worked “seamlessly” together to steal a 64-year-old woman’s purse while she was at a store and later used her debit and credit cards, say Hamilton police.
The men are suspected of stealing from older people who shop alone in the province and across the country, the force said.
“These suspects are known to travel extensively throughout the province and occasionally across the country, targeting older individuals who are shopping alone,” Hamilton police stated in a press release today (Nov. 14). “This criminal pattern suggests that the incident in question is likely not an isolated occurrence.”
Police are looking for four men who they say committed the crime recently. They didn’t state when or where the theft happened.
“The incident involved the coordinated efforts of the suspects to distract a 64-year-old victim, ultimately resulting in the theft of her wallet,” police said.
According to police, two men followed the victim inside the store and approached her from behind to take her wallet from her purse. One person served as a lookout while another blocked the victim’s path as she left the store.
The suspects used the victim’s debit and credit cards at nearby establishments, police added.
One suspect was wearing a checkered shirt and black baseball hat. The second one had a blue vest and black hat. A third had a checkered shirt and a dark shadow beard. The fourth suspect wore a blue jean jacket and black baseball hat.
Those with any information about the identity or whereabouts of these men are asked to contact Det. Ben Adams at 905-540-5300 of the Crimes Against Seniors Unit.
Those who wish to provide information anonymously can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit your anonymous tips at Crime Stoppers Hamilton’s website.
