Immersive workshop at Hamilton’s historic castle will celebrate Indigenous cuisine

As part of an initiative to delve into the rich culinary heritage of the Haudenosaunee people, Chef Tawnya Brant, a competitor from Top Chef Canada and a member of Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, will host a special culinary workshop.

The event, set to take place on June 17 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, will celebrate the summer solstice with a collection of adapted and traditional recipes.

Attendees of the workshop will have the opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of the strawberry, often referred to as the “heart” berry.

This immersive culinary experience will be held at the historic kitchen of Dundurn Castle (located at 610 York Boulevard), where participants can explore and engage with the site’s rich history.

According to organizers, the experience will help deepen participants’ understanding of the culinary traditions and ingredients utilized by the Haudenosaunee people.

Tickets for the event are priced at $60 per person, and pre-registration is required.

The workshop is open to individuals aged 14 years and above, welcoming anyone interested in indigenous culture, history, and culinary arts.
