The wait is over for one of the ultimate fast-food indulgences.

This type of burger isn’t the regular grilled one. Fans believe smash burgers taste better because they are flattened or smashed into thin patties, a method that supposedly releases the flavours. A mystery employee is believed to have come up with the original smash burger decades ago and it got its name from that person’s boss, hamburger shop owner Bill Culvertson, according to AllRecipes.com.

“You haven’t tried smash burgers until you’ve tried one from Hotties!” Hotties Smashburgers boasted in an Instagram post.

The eatery moved from Toronto to 659 Barton St. E. in Barton Village, opening its doors with its distinctive hot-pink sign in Hamilton on Aug. 23.

There are single and double smashburgers. For single ones, its menu includes The Hottie (a smash patty with cheese, grilled onion, tomato, pickle and hottie sauce) for $8, Hottie Toddie (smash patty with white cheese, bacon, grilled onion, jalapeno, tomato, garlic pepper sauce and house ketchup) for $10, or Chili Cheeseburger (with smash patty, cheese, house chili and pickle) for $10.

Fries are on the menu, from Cajun Fries and Chili Cheese Fries to Hottie Style (cheese sauce, grilled onion, jalapeno and hottie sauce), ranging from  $5 to $10.

All Beef Dogs are another option, such as Chili Cheese Dog for $11 and Hottie Toddie (cheese sauce, grilled onion, jalapeno and hottie sauce) for $9.

The restaurant serves dessert, such as its signature pink soft serve ice cream cone ($4) and sundaes ($7) with strawberry, hot fudge and caramel flavours.

The eatery is open daily from 12 to 9 p.m. except Tuesdays.
