Barton Street will be closed to motorized traffic this weekend to make way for a special event that will allow Hamilton’s residents to dine, shop and explore the street safely.
Open Streets on Barton will see the street closed from Victoria to Wentworth from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday (July 3) to allow pedestrians to safely take in the sights, sounds and flavours of the popular neighbourhood.
Close to 30 businesses are participating in the event with food and drink specials, giveaways, demos and sales to celebrate the first of three Open Streets events this summer.
In what is truly a hopeful sign after months of lockdown, the event will also feature live, local music at two locations on the street throughout the day starting at 11:30.

The next two Open Streets events take place on August 7 and September 4.
Earlier this spring, the Barton Village BIA hosted an online auction to help fund their Open Streets initiative, which is also sponsored by Meridian Credit Union.
The auction helped to raise $6,000 for the Open Streets initiative, which is a scaled-back version of the popular Barton Street Festival, which, due to COVID-19, has been on hiatus since last summer.
In its most recent years, the Barton Street Festival attracted upwards of 20,000 people to the neighbourhood and its businesses with a weekend full of live performances and unique events.
