Hamilton warming centres to open Friday as storm arrives

It is supposed to feel like minus-27C in Hamilton on Friday afternoon, so community centres will be open as warming centres during their regular hours.
Hamilton is under a winter storm watch from Environment and Climate Change Canada. The city is slated to face blowing snow and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h during the morning and afternoon.
Since the wind chill is beyond -20C, the medical officer of health has issued a cold weather alert. It will remain in effect until a cancellation notice is issued.
During a cold weather alert, the City of Hamilton notifies community agencies who work with people that are vulnerable and experiencing housing deprivation. Each of those agencies will implement their policies and procedures with regards to cold weather.
During regular business hours, the following community centres are available to anyone who needs to get out of the cold:
- Ancaster Rotary Centre, 385 Jerseyville Rd. W., Ancaster
- Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre, 876 Cannon St. E., Hamilton
- Central Memorial Rec Centre, 93 West Ave. S.
- Dalewood Recreation Centre, 1150 Main St. W.,
- Dominic Agostino Riverdale Community Centre, 150 Violet Dr.
- Dundas Lions Memorial Community Centre, 10 Market St. S., Dundas
