Double shooting leaves victim in critical condition, charges laid against Brampton man

A 15 year-old Hamilton high school student is facing multiple drug trafficking and proceeds of crime charges following reports of an armed teenager at Bernie Custis Secondary School.

The youth was one of five people arrested after police responded to the presence of a “potentially armed” male at the downtown Hamilton school, located immediately south of Tim Horton’s Field, just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The school, as well as Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre and Jimmy Thompson Pool, was immediately placed in lockdown. After Hamilton Police received information the teen had left in a vehicle, investigators tracked the car and its five occupants to a nearby gas station and brought all five into custody on suspicion of a firearm.

No gun was found in the vehicle, and while investigation indicated the weapon had been left in the school in a bag, no firearm charges were laid.

Police have not confirmed if any gun was located.

The youth is charged with two counts of possession of fentanyl, two counts of possession of cocaine and proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Hamilton Police extend their gratitude to the community, witnesses, school staff, students, and everyone involved for their cooperation and assistance throughout the investigation, ensuring the safety of all parties involved.

Anyone with new information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Candice Culp at (905) 546-2907.
