Air pollution has become a significant concern for climate scientists worldwide, particularly in major cities where it poses a substantial challenge.

According to United Nations data, it is projected that 68 per cent of the global population will reside in urban areas by 2050.

In the midst of these global concerns, a recent study conducted by HouseFresh, a publication focused on air quality, revealed that Hamilton ranks thirteenth among Canadian cities with the most ‘good air days.’

These are days characterized by healthy air quality levels that are conducive to the well-being of the population. They analyzed atmospheric data with the world air index.

According to the report, Hamilton enjoys a total of 320 good air days out of 365 in a year.

This positive air quality ranking places Hamilton in the company of other Canadian cities like Toronto, ranking fifth, and Mississauga, ranking eighth, with 341 and 332 good air days, respectively.

Topping the list is Halifax, boasting around 363 clean air days annually.

Despite these encouraging statistics, data from the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights the fact that 80 per cent of urban residents worldwide are still exposed to excessive levels of fine particulate matter, which poses a significant health risk.
