Hamilton police seize 14 guns, $32M in drugs

The Hamilton Police Service (HPS) announced Monday (Feb. 7) it seized more than a dozen firearms and other weapons, as well as nearly $32 million worth in drugs over the last 12 days.
“The increase in violent crime and the use of firearms in our city is unacceptable. Our members have seized over 14 firearms in the last 12 days and continue to do excellent work in removing them from our streets,” said Chief Frank Bergen. “A safer community involves everyone, please call police or Crime Stoppers if you are aware of someone who is in possession of an illegal weapon.”
Police say the majority of gun crimes being committed in Hamilton involve firearms that were illegally obtained and possessed.
Over the course of the last 12 days, police have seized:
- 14 firearms
- Hundreds of rounds of ammunition
- Canadian Currency
- Counterfeit American Currency
- Prohibited devices such a conducted energy weapons
Some of the criminal charges include:
- Production of Fentanyl
- Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Fentanyl for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Proceeds of Crime Over $5,000
- Proceeds of Crime Under $5,000
- Possession of Prohibited Weapon/Device
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Firearm in a Vehicle
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of Methamphetamine
- Possession of Counterfeit Bills
- Possession of Cocaine
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
