Hamilton Police searching for suspects after gunplay leads to second school lockdown in two days

Hamilton Police are investigating a shooting incident near King Street and Caroline Street that police initially believed may have been linked to the missing gun from Wednesday’s lockdown of Bernie Custis Secondary School,
Police responded to responded to a verbal dispute between two teenagers and two other individuals in high-visibility vests at a bus shelter in central Hamilton around noon today. The altercation escalated, police said, and one of the youths fired a shot. There were no reported injuries.
Following a tip that one suspect might have headed towards the high school about four kilometres to the east, police placed the school in lockdown. Police thoroughly searched the school and did not locate the suspect or any weapons.
The investigation into the King and Caroline Street shooting is ongoing but police said incident is not connected to the lockdown that took place at the high school Wednesday.
That investigation led to a 15 year-old Hamilton high school student being charged with multiple drug trafficking and proceeds of crime charges following reports of an armed teenager at Bernie Custis Secondary.
No gun was found during that investigation either.
