One person is dead after a collision in the east end of Hamilton on Tuesday.

Hamilton Police say the crash involved a motorcycle in the Parkdale area, between Morley and Brampton streets on Tuesday, Sept. 13, just after 10 a.m.

In an update, Hamilton Police said a 70-year-old Hamilton man died in the collision.

The collision involved a Yahama Majesty scooter and a pickup truck on Parkdale Avenue North near Burland Crescent, police said.

A 24-year-old Hamilton man was driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck northbound on Parkdale Avenue North at Burland Crescent. At the same time, a 70-year-old man rode his motorcycle scooter in the southbound lanes towards the same intersection. The driver of the Ford pickup began to turn left at the intersection and struck the scooter.

“The 70-year-old man suffered significant injuries and was transported to hospital by paramedics,” police said. “Despite efforts by paramedics and hospital staff, the male succumbed to his injuries.”

The 24-year-old man was physically unharmed, he remained at the collision scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Due to the injuries sustained, the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) has taken over the investigation.
